About Grams2Cups
Grams2Cups is a small, focused tool for one recurring kitchen problem: a recipe gives you one unit and you need another. Instead of a single flat conversion, every ingredient in the database (63 and counting) carries its own grams-per-cup value, so the number you get back reflects that ingredient's real density.
How the numbers are calculated
Every conversion starts from a single reference value: how many grams fill one standard US cup (236.588 ml) of that ingredient. From there, cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, milliliters, ounces, and pounds are all derived with straightforward arithmetic — no ingredient gets a separate formula for each unit.
Reference values are drawn from commonly published home-baking conversion figures and cross-checked for consistency across the database. They're a strong practical estimate, not a laboratory measurement.
Where accuracy has limits
Density can shift with brand, humidity, temperature, and how an ingredient is measured — packed versus loose, sifted versus straight from the bag. For a handful of ingredients we list separate entries for common states (packed brown sugar vs. sifted powdered sugar, for example) specifically because that difference is large enough to matter.
When a recipe's success depends on precision — laminated dough, macarons, bread with a tight hydration ratio — a kitchen scale and the ingredient's exact packaging weight will always beat any converter, including this one.
